Let’s CHAT

We all experience difficult times in our lives – often (but not always) linked to a change in our circumstances.  This might be the loss of a loved one, entering retirement, a relationship breakdown, job loss or the diagnosis of a long-term condition.  Equally you might experience periods of increased anxiety, low mood or sleeplessness due to general concerns or seemingly no reason at all.

We know it can be hard to reach out for help when you’re not at your best.  The options for support might be unfamiliar or overwhelming.  That’s why we’re glad our CHAT (Change, Hope and Transition) project is back thanks to funding from the National Lottery Community Fund.

CHAT offers one-to-one support in-person or on the phone at a time and place to suit you.  We will listen to you without judgement.  Our worker Kay will work with you, led by your needs.   We can help you find further support from other experienced services if you need it too.  You don’t have to bottle things up or do it on your own.

I am so happy to be back working alongside St George’s brilliant teams. I have always felt welcomed and supported by everyone at St Georges and am looking forward to a close partnership between the two organisations, to support the people of Lupset and West Wakefield. After the success of CHAT in the past, we have had the opportunity to rethink and tailor some aspects of the project to offer an enhanced, easily accessible package of emotional and wellbeing support which will hopefully dovetail perfectly with St George’s current groups and services.

We also offer opportunities to meet in a group setting, like our Coffee and CHAT sessions at St George’s on Thursday mornings, 10.30-11.30am.  It’s an informal way to connect with other locals, find out more about what’s going on in the community and support one another.  The CHAT project will also be doing community outreach over the coming months to help spread the word about the help available.

Our flyer:

CHAT flyer side one. The silhouette of a person with their hand to their head is surrounded by dark clouds containing the phrases: Do you find yourself worrying constantly or unable to sleep? Are you grieving or struggling with recent life changes? Have you lost your confidence or sense of self? Are you experiencing low mood or anxiety? Details of the service and contact numbers are listed below.
Second side of the CHAT flyer. Gives the option to print and complete your details and return to St George's so our CHAT worker can contact you.

The CHAT project offers low-level emotional and wellbeing support to people aged 18+ in Wakefield.  It is delivered in partnership with Age UK Wakefield.
