Did you know 18% of jobs in Yorkshire and the Humber are low paid? Across the region there are over 410,000 jobs paying less than the real Living Wage.
We’re proud to share that we’re joining a growing network of employers committed to pay the real Living Wage. Our Living Wage commitment will see everyone working for St George’s – at our community centre and all four nurseries – receive a minimum hourly wage of £12.60. This is significantly higher than the government minimum for over 21s, which currently stands at £12.21 per hour.

This move is designed to complement our work with the community, and “practice what we preach.” We believe that everyone needs to be able to live with dignity and have a decent standard of living.
Given the work we do, we know the strain people are experiencing financially and across the board. We've been working towards this for a long time as part of our commitment to our staff. We're so grateful for their hard work and want them to feel appreciated and valued.
Berni O'Brien, CEO
Katherine Chapman, Director, Living Wage Foundation said: “We’re delighted that St George’s has joined the movement of over 16,000 responsible employers across the UK who voluntarily commit to go further than the government minimum to make sure all their staff earn enough to live on.”

Meeting the real Living Wage is part of our wider aim to improve and maintain the wellbeing of our people across the organisation. St George’s is also Disability Confident Committed and a Mindful Employer. Representatives from across every team have fed into working groups and initiatives. We’re also building new and fun team building activities – from Taskmaster to taster sessions of groups we run with the community our team days are never dull!
